Kitesurfing Season in Aruba

Aruba — with its consistent trade winds — has wind almost year-round, with the main season lasting from December through August. Even during the three months of September through November (hurricane season), there are still great winds with only a handful of days where the wind dies down. Aruba's unique geographical location means it almost never gets hit by tropical storms. The ideal wind range varies from 17 knots to 30+ knots, with many days falling comfortably in the 22–27 knot range. As an 85kg rider, I found myself almost always using a 9m kite, with only a handful of days each month I'd reach for a 12m or 7m kite.

Kitesurfing Spots in Aruba

Now that you know Aruba has incredible wind almost year-round, here are the main kitesurfing locations on the island.

Boca Grandi — San Nicolas

Onshore wind, constant East-to-North swell. One of the best spots on the island, with a 500+ meter bay. The south of Aruba near the town of San Nicolas — more local vibe, far from large tourist developments. Multiple self-launch stations and a great community at sunset.

Fisherman Huts — Noord

Off-shore, gusty wind. Iconic Aruban beach with white sand and flat, clear blue water. The offshore winds allow for completely flat water at the cost of gustier conditions. Close to the high-rise hotels of Noord — ideal if you're staying on the developed side of the island.

Arashi Beach — Noord

Off-shore wind, frequented by locals and tourists. Off-shore wind and flat waters near the beach with more swell the further out you go. Beach gets busy on weekends with swimmers and sun-bathers — not the easiest launch, but a beautiful location for experienced kiters.
